This gorgeous postcard comes from my South African friend Ruhan who, by the way, has a birthday today. So, happy birthday! 😀 The card was a great surprise because some time ago I had mentioned that I’d like to have a card with the African penguins, so it was very thoughtful of him to send me one.

Boulders Beach is a sheltered beach made up of inlets between granite boulders, from which the name originated. It is located in the Cape Peninsula, near Simon’s Town towards Cape Point, near Cape Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is also commonly known as Boulders Bay. It is a popular tourist stop because of a colony of African Penguins which settled there in 1982. Boulders Beach forms part of the Table Mountain National Park.

The African Penguin (Spheniscus demersus), also known as the Jackass Penguin and Black-footed Penguin is a species of penguin, confined to southern African waters. It is also widely known as the “Jackass” Penguin for its donkey-like bray, although several related species of South American penguins produce the same sound.
